Character
Name: Tetsuya Kurodake
Series: Future Card Buddyfight
Timeline: Episode 58, after winning his fight against Sofia.
Canon Resource Links: Here is a link to his page on the Buddyfight wiki, but fair warning: it is fan-maintained and as such fairly unpolished. If you would like an expanded history or clarification on any points, please let me know (and as a note, I play from the dub).
Personality: Tetsuya's role on the show is mainly comic relief and so his personality is well-suited to that. He's playful and outgoing, is shown to not have much trouble making friends, and not a lot bothers him. He even seems to acknowledge that his role is mostly to provide amusement, saying point-blank in one episode after someone trips on one of his banana peels that every situation needs a little comic relief.
It isn't as though everything rolls perfectly off his back, just that most of his negative responses are exaggerated for comedic effect and something he gets over relatively quickly. He often displays greatly exaggerated fear or surprise when a battle goes suddenly badly, or sadness when he makes an obvious mistake or loses, but then is right back on his feet again and ready to move forward. Nothing much really gets to him -- it's like he gets any negative emotion out all in one big burst and then never thinks about it again.
There are exceptions to this, however! We see Tetsuya get truly upset a few times: once when Rouga doesn't remember fighting him (or even remember who he is), once when Zanya implies that he isn't serious about buddyfighting and should give it up, after finding out that Terumi's memories were erased, and when Asmodai tricks him by pretending to be Terumi in order to get him to defeat Sofia. In regards to the first two, while Tetsuya is okay with being the comic relief and loves to bring a little levity into situations, he also puts his heart and soul into things he loves. Being shut down, written off or told that giving something his all isn't good enough really gets to him -- as discussed below, when he cares about something he will always give it 110% of his effort. He's a good example of the idea that it's not being the best but doing your best that should be praised. This is likely why Asmodai's positive reinforcement works so well on him.
Terumi is also a special case, and his relationship with her is incredibly indicative of the kind of person Tetsuya is. Their first few encounters are overwhelmingly negative from her side and he seems to make it his personal goal to befriend her because of this, especially because from his point of view she seems like a stressed and unhappy person. His goal is to help her have fun, because that's his goal with all of his friends: he wants to be the person who can make anyone smile! So finding out that after finally breaking down Terumi's walls (and developing a bit of a crush on her) that all of her memories were erased hits him hard. He worked so hard to bring happiness into her life and now she doesn't even remember him; he's lost a friend before he even had a chance to really get to know her. This puts him in a funk, the only time he's ever had an extended period of being visibly unhappy, and he pulls himself out of that funk solely because he knows that Gao and Zanya are depending on him.
So, Tetsuya is a person who values his friends and his ability to help and support them very deeply and feels awful when he can't even for reasons outside of his control. He actually breaks down in tears during his fight with Sofia because he wants so badly to help Terumi but also doesn't want to let down his team by forfeiting the match, a decision he struggles deeply with until Asmodai steps in and helps push him to win by making one of his clones dress up as Terumi so that Tetsuya thinks she's at the match. When he finds out Tetsuya is extremely angry, even dropping his more comical speaking voice for a more 'normal' one (something he only does in deeply serious moments). He acknowledges that it's what he needed to win but it's clear that Terumi is a sore spot for him and he's not entirely okay with Asmodai using her image to manipulate him.
On a happier note: Tetsuya is the kind of person who is only good at a few things but is amazingly good at those things. He pours himself deeply into things he cares about like his dancing and rapping and doesn't really give much thought to anything else; it's implied he's not very good in school and back when he first started buddyfighting he would skip on practice. This is likely because he wasn't as close with Asmodai and didn't care about buddyfighting as much since he took it up on a whim. The fact that he's improved so much at buddyfighting so quickly over the course of the series so far shows exactly how good he can become at something once he cares about getting better at it.
He does however make obvious mistakes. The way Asmodai chooses to teach him and the fact that it's worked so well is because Tetsuya learns best by doing, by being allowed to make those obvious mistakes and learn from them; he flourishes with positive reinforcement and, as demonstrated by his reaction to Zanya telling him he wasn't good enough, is only made angry by attempts to motivate him that come in the form of insults. He's not as good at theory (another reason he probably isn't as good in school); he works best doing things hands-on and once he's made a mistake he's very unlikely to make it again.
I think Tetsuya can best be summed up by the way he approaches buddyfighting. He gets into it and he wants to win but if he doesn't win it doesn't bother him: what matters is that he had fun, learned something new, was entertaining to watch and maybe made a new friend. There'll always be another buddyfight and in the meantime he has his friends and Asmodai to hang out with, so it's all aiight, yo.
Strengths/Weaknesses:
+ As stated above, Tetsuya always puts his heart and soul into things he is invested in and improves quickly because of it.
+ Is passable at both dancing and rapping.
+ Physically flexible and fairly strong; can do a backflip from a standing position.
+ Optimistic and difficult to get to unless Real Shit is going down.
- Makes obvious mistakes, particularly where strategy is concerned.
- Is a 'space case' about stuff he isn't emotionally invested in; is consistently late for school because he gets caught up in dancing, for instance.
- Talks like a goddamn 90s commercial.

Samples
First Person Sample: The sample must take place in Route_29's setting. Eight sentences is the minimum. This is a PokéConnect post--one that will be on the character's journal, broadcast to the network. Although it is short, it needs to show how your character would communicate with others, as well as be descriptive enough to express the character's voice without sounding too generic.
Third Person Sample: The sample must take place in Route_29's setting. The minimum is 300 words. Please note that what we are looking for is an inner working into the character’s thoughts and actions, and how the character responds to the setting, not something that could be taken as an excerpt fanfic. You may use other characters to bounce your characters actions off of, but everything should still be mostly from their point of view.
